Welcome to
Year 5 – Mrs Atar
Welcome to 5A

A huge warm welcome to our class page.
I am Mrs Atar and I am really looking forward to teaching in year 5 again this year.
Below, you will find lots of information below about being a member of 5A.
During our first weeks back at school, we have spent lots of time settling back into school life and re-establishing our school routines and ensuring everyone feels happy and settled in their new classroom environment.
Each morning, the children are welcomed into a calm environment where time is given to check in with each child and there is they also have the opportunity to read.
Parent Partnership is very important to us and I am contactable at school to answer any questions or help you with any concerns or queries you may have. This can be at the end of the school day once all the children have been dismissed or via the school office.

We live out our school vision of being ‘Vibrant, Loving and Proud’ and do this by taking on extra responsibilities. Members of our class are anti-bullying ambassadors, school councillors, eco warriors, Science ambassadors and Junior Road Safety Officers! As a class, we aim to embrace a growth mind-set and advocate for practice enabling progress.
Reading
Our first lesson each day is Reading. We have a formal reading lesson Monday – Thursday and our weekly homework supports this too. The expectation is that your child will read at home independently for 20 minutes daily. This is monitored and regular reading at home is rewarded with our whole school reading owl system.
We are currently reading ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ By Roald Dahl

Maths
We are currently focussing on revisiting and consolidation of times tables. These are vital for our maths lessons.
This term, we will be working on place value which includes reading and writing numbers up to 1 million.

We will also be working on our addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division. These are examples of the methods we use:

Writing
We love to write in Year 5 and will be aiming to improve the content and cohesion of our written work and become more proficient at editing and polishing our work to the highest standard.
As ever, we continue to focus on handwriting and spelling on a daily basis. The spelling word list for Year 5 and 6 can be found below.
Children in Year 5 are expected to write in a fountain pen. Their first fountain pen is gifted from the school to the child. Any required replacements can be purchased from the school office at a cost of £1.
