Welcome to

Year 4– Mrs Edwards

Welcome to Year 4

My name is Mrs Edwards.  It is a pleasure to be teaching Year 4 this year.  I am an experienced teacher having taught for many years. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and expertise with you.

I believe children should be encouraged to be the best they can be in a positive atmosphere where all children are valued and thrive.  I hope to instil a love of learning and to help children to live their lives by our school motto ‘Kind Deeds, Strong Endeavour’ and our values ‘Vibrant, Loving, Proud.’

Below you will find lots of information that will show you what we learn in Year 4.

So far we have been getting to know each other, establishing routines and looking at ‘Beegu’ by Alexis Deacon in PHSE.  When children arrive in the morning they are welcomed warmly ready to start an exciting and busy day.

It has been lovely meeting some parents so far and I actively encourage parent/school partnership.  If you need anything or have any concerns/questions or to tell me something great your child has done or achieved please do not hesitate to contact me through the school office or at the end of the day once all the children have been dismissed.

Maths

This term we will cover place value, addition, subtraction and multiplication.  Children will be given a times table quiz every Friday.

English

This half term, in our English lessons we will be using Oliver Twist as a stimulus. We will be writing our own version of the story.  Also, we will cover non-chronological reports and poetry based on the poem ‘Timothy Winters’.  We will continue to focus on handwriting and spelling on a daily basis.  Please find the words that we have a spelling focus on this half-term below:

Reading

We have a formal reading lesson Monday – Thursday and our weekly homework supports this too.  The expectation is that your child will read at home independently for 20 minutes daily.  This is monitored and regular reading at home is rewarded with our whole school reading owl system.

PE

On a Tuesday and Wednesday your child will need to come into school wearing their PE kits.  Over the colder months, it is advisable that this includes jogging bottoms and a school hoody.  For gymnastics and dance children will need plimsolls or bare feet.

Our typical timetable looks like this –

  • History– The Ancient Greeks
  • Art – Drawing Quentin Blake
  • Science – Sound
  • Computing– Computer Systems and Networks
  • SMSC – RE focus Christianity
  • PSHE – Family and friendships
