Welcome to

Year 3 – Miss Scott

Welcome to 3S

We are a class of Year 3 children and I am delighted to be the class teacher!  My name is Miss Scott and I have been a primary school teacher for 6 years.

You will find lots of information below about being a member of 3S.  During our first weeks back at school, we have spent lots of time and getting to know each other, establishing our routines and ensuring that everybody feels happy in their new classroom environment.  Children are welcomed each morning into a calm environment where time is given to check in with each child whilst they also have the opportunity to read.  Parent partnership is important to us and I am contactable at school to answer any questions or help with any concerns you may have.  This can be at the end of the school day once all of the class have been dismissed or through an appointment arranged via the school office. Please do not hesitate to speak to me regarding any questions you may have.

We try to embody our school values of being ‘Vibrant, Loving and Proud’ in everything we do and aim to always practice our growth mind-set to help us reach our full potential.

English

This half term, in our writing lessons we will be using Dolphin Boy by Michael Morpurgo and Michael Foreman as a stimulus. We will be writing setting descriptions, using the seaside setting of the story as a stimulus.

We will continue to focus on handwriting and spelling on a daily basis.  Please find the words that we have a spelling focus on this half-term:

Reading

We have a formal reading lesson Monday – Thursday and our weekly homework supports this too.  The expectation is that your child will read at home independently for 20 minutes daily.  This is monitored and regular reading at home is rewarded with our whole school reading owl system.

Maths

We are currently focussing on place value to 1000 and recognising that 3-digit numbers are made up of hundreds, tens and ones. We will also be working on our addition and subtraction and starting to learn our 3 times tables.
