Photography
During the summer term the year 6 children were given the opportunity to learn about photography. Through HPAN “Halton primary art network” we were able to seek support and advice from a local Halton photographer from Hazelhurst studios in Runcorn.

The studios let us borrow a set of pinhole cameras and some other equipment to allow the children to learn about the very first type of camera.

The children discovered how light rays enter through the pinhole of the camera and project an image on to the photo paper at the back of the camera. Through trial and error we exposed the lens in different weathers and for different time lengths to create some fantastic negatives.

We have managed to develop some of these negatives into photographs in the dark room we created. We children enjoyed putting on gloves and passing the papers through the different chemicals to learn about the process of photography. They are still amazed at how it has developed over the years and how lucky we are to instantly create photos on our smart phones.
Take a look at the photographs below to see us using the cameras and developing the photos.
